Hoge Hall (LEE, #30) is an 824 person, co-ed dormitory located in the Prairie Community. The building itself is clad in Hokie Stone and was first occupied in 1967. On May 30, 1968, the building was dedicated to Claudius Lee. Renaming has been periodically reconsidered since 1997, when it was discovered that Lee was listed as President of the KKK in an old yearbook. In August of 2020, the Board of Visitors voted to rededicate the building to the late William and Janie Hoge, a local African American couple who played a critical role in the success and well-being of the first African American students attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute in the 1950s, including hosting Irving L.
