FDM 1600
Adjacent to the Computer Aided Design Laboratory, housed in 114-M Randolph Hall, is a Stratasys FDM 1600 Rapid Prototyping System. It can print ABS plastic in white, blue, green, red, yellow, and black, as well as investment casting wax, and nylon copolymer. To allow for continuous, unattended operation, the system has a custom-built attachment for loading and unloading print jobs.
RepRap
Built by a student doing undergraduate research, the ECE Department has a RepRap built from the MakerGear kit in the spring of 2011. Directed by Kathleen Meehan, the use of a RepRap to fabricate circuit boards in a safe (compared to a milling machine) and quick (compared to sending off an order) fashion, as the well as the possibility of printing electrical components such as resistors and electronic components such as light-emitting diodes are under investigation.
