The Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE Department) is one of the 14 departments within the College of Engineering. Dr. Sam Easterling is the current department head. The department is headquartered in Patton Hall, in Blacksburg, VA. It also has facilities in Durham Hall, as well as several on- and off-campus experimental laboratories.
Academics
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers study in six major areas:
- Construction Engineering and Management
- Environmental and Water Resources Engineering
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Land Development Design
- Structural Engineering and Materials
- Transportation Infrastructure and Systems Engineering
The department also offers interdisciplinary study in the following fields:
- Civil Infrastructure Engineering
- Geoenvironmental Engineering
- Geospatial Engineering
History
The endowed department is named in honor of Charles E. Via, Jr.
