The designation of Registered Student Organization is given by the Student Activities Office to organizations who have met the criteria outlined in Policy 8013. The term may also be used loosely at times to refer to a University Student Life Program or a University Chartered Student Organization. Policy 8010 defines a Registered Student Organization as,
a voluntary association of Virginia Tech students that has no direct
relationship to the university but upon completion of registration documents is entitled to certain privileges to include operating, meeting, advertising, and participating in activities on the Virginia Tech campus.
A designation of Extended Campus Student Organization serves the same role for organizations at Virginia Tech's extended campuses.
