The Cyber Security Club at Virginia Tech is a special-interest registered student organization in the Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science departments founded in spring 2011 with the goal of encouraging and expanding the study of cyber security and related fields.

History

Initial planning for a cyber security club at Virginia Tech began in fall 2010, but there was little interest at the time. After Virginia Tech hosted its first annual Cyber Security Summit in April 2011, there was increased interest in forming a student organization dedicated to cyber security topics. Within a few weeks, officers and a faculty adviser were selected, and the paperwork to form the club was turned in at the beginning of the fall semester of 2011.

The club hosted the second annual Cyber Security Summit at the end of April 2012 at the Arlington Research Center.
