'''Captain Charles Erastus Vawter Sr.''' (???&mdash;1905) served as a member of the [[Board of Visitors]] from 1886 to 1900, and as rector of the board from 1889 to 1900, back when the university was known as the "Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College."
